How To Clean Glass Shower Doors The Easy Way

I love Pinterest because of stuff like this. It really shouldn't be life changing, but it is.
I have very hard water where I live. My shower doors are usually covered in a gross combination of hard water deposits and soap scum. I'm really embarrassed to show you my "before" photos, but you must see them to truly appreciate what a miracle this do-it-yourself cleaner is.
In the past, even after I'd cleaned the glass, it wouldn't look much better because the glass cleaner just couldn't cut through this caked on crud.
Can you believe it! This stuff works! You're dying to know the secret aren't you? Well here it is.
I found this DIY cleaner on here and here and it is fantastic because it works!
Here's the recipe:
8 oz. (1 cup) of warm vinegar
8 oz. ( 1 cup) of Dawn
That's it! I put the vinegar in the microwave for about two minutes to get it warm. Then mix the vinegar and the Dawn in a spray bottle. One cup of Dawn seems like a lot to me, but I guess you need that much to cut through the scum. It makes sense. If it can cut through grease and baked on food, it should be able to cut through yucky shower scum!
I sprayed the Dawn and vinegar mixture on the glass and scrubbed with a sponge. I really didn't have to scrub hard or for very long. That stubborn stuff came right off! I had a bucket of clean water to wipe off the soap suds. When I was done, there still seamed to be a little bit of residue on the glass so I just used the glass cleaner I usually use to give the doors a final wipe. Now my shower doors look as good as new!

There have been quite a few questions about this post. Here are some of the common questions and the answers.
What is Dawn?
Dawn is a brand of liquid soap used to wash dishes.
Will a different brand of soap work?
I used Dawn and didn't test any other brands. If you try another brand and it works, leave a comment and let me know!
I forgot to warm up the vinegar. Will it still work?
Yes. After cleaning the glass the first time, I had plenty of cleaning solution left over. I used the left over solution a few months later and didn't warm it in the microwave. It still worked!

LOL :D I JUST posted this same thing today! haha! Isn't it AWESOME?! I still just can't get over how fabulous this cleaner is! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week <3
So I forgot to warm up the vinegar. Maybe a vital step as I am still without luck. Do you suppose I can heat the batch?
DeleteIf you still have water spots after cleaning, you can try using Barkeepers Friend liquid cleanser.
DeleteAfter I finish cleaning the doors. I spray furniture cleaner and clean them with a piece of cloth. When you take a shower the water will hit the door and will slide right off.
DeleteThanks, I needed this!! Pinned it. Thanks for sharing at Mom's Library!
ReplyDeleteWow! MUST TRY THIS! I've been trying lots of different products and nothing seems to work well. I squigee the doors daily after the shower and that's been the best help so far but it still doesn't eliminate everything so I'll be trying this solution TONIGHT! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI squigee the doors daily too, but stuff still builds up after awhile. None of the products I tried worked either. I'm so happy I found this tip and glad to share it with everyone!
DeleteHas anyone ever tried "JET DRY" in the spray bottle to keep it from spotting? Or rubbing a small amount of vegetable oil into the glass and then squeegying it off? Or the rain product they have at the auto store for windshield wipers so the water beads up and rolls off your car? Just wondering?
DeleteRain-X is the product - and yep - it works great - try it.
DeleteI tried everything and NOTHING worked. The doors would look great immediately after but when it dried it looked exactly looked before. Then when I was emptying my dishwasher I noticed that the glasses that had the same grey cloudy look were looking good and realized that the new washer pods have "jet dry" in them. So I sprayed jet dry onto the shower doors while I showered, no scrubbing, no rinsing, no manual labor. It took a few weeks but the doors look brand new.
DeleteI just researched all the blogs and the one that worked for me was beekeeper friend for glass stove top. The liquid one in the silver bottle. Just wipe on and rinse! This stuff is fantastic! The shower doors look like new! Promise!!!
DeleteWhat is "Jet Dry"? I've not heard of that here in Australia. I've yet to try the equal parts vinegar with a dish washing detergent (we don't have Dawn) but most other ideas only last a day or two and the marks return.
DeleteI have tried CLR, professional window cleaner, vinegar, baking soda, corn starch, etc. THIS WORKED! I used Palmolive.
DeleteI use a combination of 2/3 water, 1/3 vinegar (to fill whatever size spray bottle you have) with a couple drops of blue Dawn. Spray my shower doors every morning, the last to use the shower for the day, then squeegee. I still get soap scum along the bottom quarter of the doors over time, so I gently scrub that section every Monday morning with pure blue Dawn. I love my glass shower doors. And they look great.
DeleteAwesome! When I built my house I requested to have textured glass so my soap scum wasn't able to be seen as bad.
ReplyDeleteI will have to try it! Come over and say, starting to follow you know. Came over from Riverton Housewives!
Mommy: If you have textured glass, try furniture polish - like Pledge or lemon oil. I got this tip from a pro house cleaner. It makes the shower door glass and frames glisten and is somewhat water repellent - for a while anyway. Disclaimer: This does NOT work on clear doors!
DeleteI can't wait to try this on our motorhome shower doors! They are so hard to clean.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmm, might have to give this a go! ;0)
ReplyDeleteWow, I hope this works because I am constantly trying to clean my shower doors. It drives me crazy. I can't wait to try this. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower.

I don't have glass shower doors, but I HATE cleaning my tub/shower...nothing NOTHING works. I wonder if this would have the same effect?? Gotta try it...thanks!
ReplyDeletehiya i am from the UK and not sure what dawn is?
ReplyDeleteDawn is a brand of soap usually used for washing dishes.
DeleteFairy Liquid works just as well in the UK instead of Dawn.
DeleteFairy liquid
DeleteI think the UK equivalent is Fairy.
DeleteGreat tip...I've been dealing with the same thing on my shower doors. Now I'll have to try this. Coming over from the Blog Hop, I'm your newest follower. If you get a chance maybe you can visit me! Kim @ La Belle Epoque Home
ReplyDeleteYAY! I needed this today. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteyep, that's what I use too. We use vinegar for everything! Looks great. Thank you for sharing at the hop, your participation males the hop extra special. Big Hugs P.S. the new giveaway will be posted tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWow, tried this on my shower today and it worked amazingly. I don't think my shower has ever looked this clean. I did the grout between the tiles too, and sprinkled some baking soda in the tub and used the left over mix to clean the tub too! Our bathroom was so shiny afterwards. I'm hooked. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow. That's it? Equal parts vinegar and dawn? Nice. Thanks for the info. Linda
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Linda!
DeleteThanks for sharing this important information, as a new housecleaning lady, I will be using this on my clients, so tired of trying to clean the scum and not succeeding!
ReplyDeleteThis should save you a lot of time, too! It works quickly.
DeleteWill any dish soap work or do you think it has to be Dawn? I use a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser with just a scant touch of moisture, it cuts through the scum thoroughly then I finish with Windex. It works great but your way it much cheaper! Thanks,
ReplyDeleteJenna
I haven't tried with any other brands of dish soap, yet. If I do, I'll post the results.
DeleteHi, I was inspired and tried this out on my all glass shower today. It worked great! I actually thought I bought Dawn soap at the store but when I was putting the equal parts into the spray bottle, I realized it was Palmolive. But, that brand worked nicely!
DeleteI'm glad to know that other brands work just as well. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteWe don't get dawn here so used what I had and it worked. It was just a cheap brand as well
DeleteI used Palmolive and the vinegar and didn't warm either and it worked great. Thanks so much.
DeleteMost any brand of dish soap will work equally well. I see Dawn listed so often for various cleaning formulas that I think the manufacturer of Dawn has listed many of these formulas.
DeleteI Google and found out that Dawn is available in UK with the name 'Fairy' and in the Netherlands sold as 'Dreft'
DeleteIsn't this stuff great?! I've been using it for about two months and am pleased with the results. I did read a ton of reviews online and everyone says for whatever reason, the blue Dawn works best. I'm visiting from It's Overflowing.
ReplyDeleteDawn is a miracle worker! I use it for so many things. It takes grease stains out of clothing better than any stain remover. I just squeeze a little on before I throw them in the wash and the stain is gone. I recently found this same recipe. Hadn't tried it yet, but will this week. Thanks for reminding me and sharing it with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Thanks for the tip about using Dawn for grease stains on clothing. I will definitely have to try it!
DeleteI use Dawn on my grease stains too. It is AWESOME!
DeleteThe formula for Dawn is unique to that product. Apparently it has something that cuts through the greasy component of most stains,,, that's why they use it on the birds and critters that are involved with oil spills. My jeweller told me that is what they use to clean fine jewellery as well for the same reasons. I don't know that the different colours and fragrances make a difference but I've been using it for a long time and I use my dishwasher most of the time so the Dawn is used for other chores as well.
DeleteI use Dawn on clothing stains as well. Just spray and wash. Best stain remover I've ever used
DeleteThis may just be my answer. What is there about that blue Dawn dishwashing liquid that is different? When my dog got skunked, the "magic potion" the vet told us to make to get rid of the smell included Dawn. No other kind would do. :)
ReplyDeleteBlue dawn also repels fleas we bathe our doing once a month and our vet told us that is what animal shelters us.
DeleteThanks for sharing your great tips at Project Inspired - pinned to our group party pinboard - hope to see you at tomorrow nights party too!
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about this before.. Passing it along to my grandmother who has extremely hard water with glass doors as well. Thanks so much for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteWe do not have Dawn, but I will try it with our Sunlight brand ! Thank you for sharing at our ALL MY BLOGGY FRIENDS party :-) Hope to see you again tomorrow !
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and it works so well........Thank you for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop this week; I hope you’ll join us again!

I've used vinegar for years to cut or melt away hard water deposits, but never thought of using Dawn with it in the shower... So smart! I'm pinning. Little Bit from www.DecorateWithaLittleBit.com
ReplyDeleteThank you so much...going to get some Dawn and get to it...your shower doors look great!!...I hate the horrible fumes/smells from the product I've been using...I'm now a follower...pls come over for a visit and follow along if you'd like!!...nice to meet you, Mariaelena
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this tip...going to buy some Dawn today and try it out!...I'm now following...please stop by for a visit and follow along if you'd like...so glad to maybe be done with that toxic product I've been using...nice to meet you, Mariaelena

I use to have glass shower doors so I can totally appreciate this, and totally loveeeee Pintrest.

ReplyDeleteI did! Thanks Lauren!
DeleteGerat idea!! I'm definitely going to use this one!
ReplyDeleteMy heart rate actually went up...who knew I was distressed enough about my shower doors that a cleaning recipe would get me excited? Hmm. Well, anyway, THANK YOU for posting this! I'll be trying it ASAP! Lynaea @ EveryDayBloom.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tip ~ can't wait to try it (that sounds kinda weird!!) Pinned!!
ReplyDeleteI know! I was skeptical too, but it worked for me!
DeleteI know what I'm doing tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this, can't wait to give it a try. Don't you love it when you actually get excited about cleaning?
ReplyDeleteI do get excited about cleaning! It must be my OCD.
DeleteThat's pretty awesome! Vinegar is some pretty tough stuff. Hmmm... I'm wondering if this will shine up my dingy apartment sinks? Bet it would!
ReplyDeleteNikki
I use baking soda to scrub my kitchen sink and it works great!
DeleteI tried this on my shower door and it didn't really make that much of a difference. We don't really have a lot of soap scum, just water spots that will not disappear no matter how hard I try to scrub them off! Did the Dawn/vinegar cut through water spots?
ReplyDeleteTry Jet dry:-)
DeleteWow - I'm impressed! Thanks for linking at the Pinterest Power Party! I'm pinning this to my cleaning board!

going to give it a try, mine are awful! My husband used to own a window cleaning service and he used dawn all the time for windows of large companies, worked like a charm!
ReplyDeleteI definitely need something to clean my glass door. It never seems to look good. The rest of the bathroom can be sparkling (I don't mean sparkling all the time. LOL.) and the door looks like crap. That does seem like a lot of Dawn. I will try it and let you know.

ReplyDeleteHugs,

Hope it works for you as well as it did for me Peggy!
DeleteAnother crazy thing that works on shower doors is a wet dryer sheet. I didn't believe it until i tried it. Works like a charm, and the bathroom smells great, too! Wet down a dryer sheet, rub it on the shower doors, then rinse.
ReplyDeleteHey I wanted to say thanks for coming back to Show Your Style today! I hope you have a wonderful day and a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for linking up at our link party last Friday!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this recipe and can't wait to try it! I am featuring it on my blog today!
Thanks so much!
Ashley
Thanks for featuring my post on how to clean glass shower doors! What a thrill to be included with such amazing features! Thank you!
DeleteGreat tip! I love DIY cleaners and to know that they work! Pinning! Thanks for linking to Talkin' about Thursday!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I used to live in Florida and the hard water was a nightmare. Now I don't have the problem on the glass I have it on the tile. Go figure. I also found the new Magic Eraser for Bathrooms works great on the shower doors. I don't know about hard water but it might be worth a try. Defiantly trying this solution on my tile though. Thanks so much for linking up with Made in a Day last week!
ReplyDeleteKim
I found that any cheap bathroom cleaner and one of those magic eraser sponges works great for the hard water deposits. I just get them at the dollar store. Love this idea too!
ReplyDeleteJust what i've been looking for! I always have a hard time cleaning our shower door and it usually takes time and the end result isn't that convincing. I'm definitely giving this a try.
ReplyDelete- Careflections.com
Tried this because one of the simplest shown and I had the 2 ingredients listed. Used 1/2 cup Dawn and 1/2 cup warm vinegar since I only had one small shower door to clean. Worked great and I have enough solution left for another time or two. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHow long do these results last? I tried the pledge furniture polish method and it was great until the next time I showered. The glass looked just as bad as it did before. Also, how often do you use this to clean? Do you do a daily spray on your glass as well? Sorry for all of the questions!!! I'm going to try this today!!!
ReplyDeleteThis cleaner does a good job of keeping the glass clean. It lasts a couple of months. I don't clean the shower doors daily. I only clean them when they start looking bad, once every couple of months. I do use a squeegee to wipe off water from the doors after each shower. That helps to prevent some of the hard water spots.
DeleteI've been fighting my shower door all morning!!! Alcohol didn't work, vinegar, glass cleaner, even stove top cleaner... NOTHING WAS WORKING. I googled, found this post, and viola!! I have a clean shower door. THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Elizabeth! I'm so glad it worked for you!
DeleteThis worked fairly well for our glass shower door and glass walls. Probably 60-70% better. Hard water stains do persist, however, so the next step is finding a product for the last 30-40%. I have heard that once the glass is stained, it requires very, very fine sanding.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I would trying sanding. I would be too worried about scratching the glass.
DeleteThank you times infinity. This works beautifully. You have made a happy girl out of me today!
ReplyDeleteGlad I could help Celeste!
DeleteOur glass shower doors came with a warning label, not to use regular glass cleaners. They gave no other options, so I am happy to find your formula. I think for that final residue you have, just use crumpled up newspaper. That is what my mom and grandmother always used to make glass shine.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip Barbara! Thanks!
DeleteOMG, just tried this and it is magic!
ReplyDeleteDoes it matter if the vinegar is red or white?
ReplyDeleteI used white vinegar.
DeleteI'll have to try this on my shower doors in Calgary. They're terribly water stained, so I wouldn't mind them being clear again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip - excited because I have both items to mix together. Found you on Polkadots on Parade.
ReplyDeleteI just tried this and it works like magic! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis stuff is seriously amazing isn't it! Thanks for stopping by and letting me know that it worked for you!
DeleteOur shower doors in Calgary would definitely benefit from this. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteIm in Australia, will this trick work with any of our brands of dish washing liquid? Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteYep,
DeleteI'm from Oz and Palmolive works fine
Never thought this would work but it did! Amazing! Now, if I could just figure out how to get the soap scum off the marble tiles...
ReplyDeleteWhat product is Dawn. Have not seen it here
ReplyDeleteLiz
Dawn is a brand of liquid soap that's used to wash dishes.
DeleteThis works wonderfully. And to keep the doors clean, I polish them with a tiny bit of lemon oil (Old English). This will protect the shower door and make the water run off!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! Thanks Lori!
ReplyDeleteThis tip saved me from going insane! I would avoid cleaning my shower because I knew the products I had weren't going to work anyways. I still need to perfect the technique, but I'm not going to avoid cleaning my shower next time!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! I am so happy I found this. I was tired of scrubbing, waiting, scraping and nothing soup scum and water deposits were ruling my bathroom. I gave this a go just as you said and BAM!!! HOLY COW!!! My glass looks as good as new!!!! I am so excited!!!! Thank You!!!
ReplyDeleteI use this combination for the shower itself. but I did heat my vinegar I don't know why but it said to do it so I did. I left it on over night next morning I went in & cleaned the shower wow what a difference it made. I have tried everything but this one really worked. Great PIN
ReplyDeleteI just tried this on the inside of my shower doors. Worked great. I sprayed them down generously then used a window mitt on them. Rinsed with my hand held shower. They are sparkling clean!
ReplyDeleteJust here to say it works! No lie!!
ReplyDeleteAmen
DeleteThis concoction works flawlessly on those horrid textured tubs that refuse to look clean. We have hard water and had one that looked dirty even after bleaching and scouring powder. I found the Dawn/vinegar tip on Pinterest and it was amazing. The shameful tub I wanted no one to see was completely spotless and white. We've recently moved and have shower doors for the first time. Will be trying it out today!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! So easy! What else can I clean with this solution?! hmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to try this! The water where I live is also hard and I have lots of water spots on our glass shower doors.
ReplyDeleteThe best way to clean the glass in your shower is to wipe them dry with a towel right after showering when the glass is still wet. No scum, no streaks, no extra cleaning. If you get in the habit of doing it you never have to clean the glass!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try it. Thanks
ReplyDeleteDo I still have dry the glass doors after every shower?
You rock! Just finished my bathrooms in the shortest time! It even worked for the shower floors. all i had to do was wipe after spraying. No scrubbing!
ReplyDeleteNice tips. I just use a regular cellulose sponge with some water and comet. Cleans everything off and doesn't scratch.
ReplyDeleteMy shower was disgusting and I just tried this mixture. I didnt' spray it on though, I just dipped an old towel/rag into the mixture and wiped it on. It did require a little big of elbow grease, but it worked awesome! Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI used Seventh Generation brand natural dish soap which worked great instead of Dawn. I also forgot to warm my vinegar and it worked fine. I just used a gentle cloth to wipe the solution and then sprayed it off. Easy and it really works!
ReplyDeleteI will try using the Seventh Generation Brands soap, I cant use Dawn or other brands with grease cutting formula.
DeleteHi.... I tried it and it worked wonderfully and with minimal scrubbing required. I dint even warm up the vinegar and had real bad scum on the shower door. Thanks for the tip. My search is finally over :))
ReplyDeleteI just tried this exactly as you directed and it worked beautifully! I barely rubbed with my sponge and my hard water spots came right off! Thanks so much!!!
ReplyDeleteWe squeegee our new glass doors (I replaced the old ones because I couldn't get them clean) after every shower and still the soap scum builds up. Rinsing was a challenge with the shower door open; then I thought of spraying the door with clear water and wiping down with the shower squeegee - that worked pretty well although dripped a lot on the floor. I think this is working - still "smudgy" in places after doing three times, but I will do it again tomorrow when I'm IN the shower - and with a scrubby instead of a sponge.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone ever used polish liked used on car windows? Like Rain X? If so, how did you apply? What result did you have? What about cleaning slate tile in the bathroom tub area?
ReplyDeleteused your method today with ajax dish detergent had to scrub a little but what a difference. thank you!
ReplyDeleteDoes Gain work just as well as dawn?
ReplyDeleteWOW ..IT WORKS GREAT FOR OUR SHOWER.. I USE EVERY OTHER DAY TO STAY AHEAD OF THE BUILD UP.
ReplyDeleteUse Rain X after you clean it to prevent build up.
Deletewonderful! so easy and so inexpensive! I'd given up on being able to have clear glass doors until I saw this!
ReplyDeleteYou're amazing for posting this awesome tip! Was the best results for me. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteMy shower screen has been "scummy" for years no matter what I used to clean it. I just tried this with an eco dishwashing detergent and it worked first time. Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteFairy Liiquid, available in the UK, worked really well. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThanks a million for sharing, I have just finished cleaning both showers and WOW both look like new again. I used Morning Fresh (Australia) I can't believe how simple that was!!! Thanks again :-)
ReplyDeleteWhite vinegar and Meyers natural soap worked like a charm no scrubbing at all
ReplyDeleteI didn't. have dawn but tried it with Gain diswashing liquid, and it worked. This is the best thing to clean shower door...😃
ReplyDeleteWhich type of Vinegar is everyone using?
ReplyDeleteDistilled white vinegar is what I used.
DeleteAmazing tip, it worked for me.
ReplyDeleteI have soap scum (in soft water area) which is probably the result of many years of non-cleaning of the glass. I tried this method (Palmolive plus white vinegar, turned milky blue) and it made a dif, but not enough. Tried the 'Bounce' method (above) and it cleaned it a bit more. Should I persevere? Did you do it many times over? Use a green kitchen scratch pad or something?
ReplyDeleteThank you!! It really worked! I used a Mr Clean scrubbing pad cause my shower doors were really bad, then just pulled the hose through the window and sprayed it all away! Great tip!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find something to clean our shower with for months! Nothing ever seemed to work. I literally just mixed this solution, sprayed it on, and wiped it off and the nasty gunk disappeared! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteFinally something that works. Thank you so much for the tip. I too used Palmolive original dish washing liquid with white vinegar (warmed up) and out of everything that I have used - this is by far the best EVER because it actually works and it is such a cheap solution!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! Awesome! Our shower has not been this sparkling clean in years!
ReplyDeleteThe brand of dish soap is irrelevant. Look at the active ingredients. They're all the same basic chemicals, just different perfumes and marketing :)
ReplyDeleteSame goes for vinegar. Vinegar is vinegar. It's acetic acid (CH3COOH). Just buy the cheapest store brand of white vinegar. 32 oz usually cost less $1 US.
It seems to work--just smells very sweet & sour. Like I cleaned everything with duck sauce.
ReplyDeleteLiquid dish detergent and hand dust brush while in shower... perfect
ReplyDeleteJust tried this. I used distilled white vinegar heated for 3 minutes and Dawn. I'd say it provided an 80% improvement to what was originally there. Didn't get everything, but is way better than it was before.
ReplyDeleteI used 8 oz. of Dawn Ultra (blue) and 8 oz. of Lucy's Distilled White Vinegar heated for 2 minutes in the microwave. Mixed them together in a spray bottle and applied to only one-third of the shower door's glass surface using a sponge. After an hour and a half of scrubbing and rinsing thoroughly using a bucket of plain water I saw little difference between the treated and untreated area of the glass. I proceeded to use LA's Totally Awesome Streak Free Window Clean on the outside surface of the area scrubbed on the inside and there was a slight difference observed between the treated areas. I will take another area of the glass and treat it with Jet Dry and yet another area with a wet dryer sheet and compare the results. Any other suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI am so fed up to clean my glass shower door. If I don't maintain it every time after shower, it's very hard to be well cleaned later. I need to rub a lot until I remove all the hard water stains. Thanks for sharing this cleaning way, I am gonna try it for sure!
ReplyDeleteSadly it didn't work for me at all. I live in New Zealand and used Sunlight dish washing liquid. I'll keep looking...
ReplyDeleteJanine
this worked SO well!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteTry rain x to help with those spots on the glass. I haven't tried it but it sounded like a good idea
ReplyDeleteRain x
ReplyDeleteI just tried it and it did the trick! THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the vinager damage the shower door frame?
ReplyDeleteWOW! I found this advice today, mixed equal parts dawn and vinegar, didn't even warm it...just put it on a sponge and scrubbed down the doors with the mixture, then rinsed with hot water from the shower...A-mazing! Thank you! We just bought an RV with a 3 panel sliding glass shower door. Can I just tell you what a HUGE pain in the butt that is? And when light comes through the skylight the doors look horrible...it looks like I never clean them, but I squeegeee them and scrub them at least twice a week. No more worries about this issue!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it! I have tried everything and this really does work! I had a little trouble getting the remaining soap off, so I wiped the bulk with paper towels then sprayed Windex. It seemed to kill the suds.
ReplyDeleteI use De-Solve it
ReplyDeleteIt works very well!
Can I use red wine vinegar
ReplyDeleteIMHO, the Dawn is mainly to adhere the vinegar to the shower surfaces. I tried vinegar-soaked paper towels, but had less success than using the D-V mixture. Again, IMHO, heating the vinegar just allows it to mix more easily. If you want to feel truly righteous, you can make a paste with baking soda for a soft-scrub equivalent. Also, I dilute the D-V solution with water in a spray bottle for use on kitchen surfaces. Have been using for several years. LOVE. <3
ReplyDeleteNot sure if these comments are written by the makers of Dawn and Heinz vinegar ...but it did not work for me. My secret trick is to use the edge of a credit card to scrape the glass when it is dry. The scum flakes right off and then I wash it with regular window cleaner... good as new.
ReplyDeleteThis worked sooooooooo well... didnt use Dawn. Just added hot water to the mix to warm it up a bit...
ReplyDeleteWow! It certainly worked for me - used Fairy liquid and cider vinegar ( it was a choice of that or red wine vinegar!) We had had total shower room refurb, including long glass screen for walk-in shower - screen must have had some sort of greasy coating on it, which had smeared really badly after use. Completely spoiled the look, and nothing had worked until I tried this mixture - absolutely brilliant result, thank you!
ReplyDeleteAstounding - a thousand thanks! This worked first time with another washing-up liquid - I suspect it will work with any of the common liquids.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Never thought this could be so easy! I tried Dreft in stead of Dawn. I live in Belgium and this is a very good dish wash soap. Everything smells like vinager but that's allright, this works much better than any other product! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI used Seventh Generation dish soap with the white vinegar and it worked like a charm!
ReplyDeleteOmg. I just tied this and it worked amazingly. I used a store brand dish soap and it worked fine. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting this.
ReplyDelete
