Pin Junkie Happy Hour #9: Blood Orange Martini
Blood oranges have a very dark, ruby red or crimson colored flesh. Not only is the color more intense than a regular orange, but so is the taste and aroma. They are primarily grown in Italy which explains why I don't get to have them very often and when I do, it's a special treat. I love blood oranges so when I saw them advertised at my local grocery store, I was excited. That's saying something since I loath the repetitive task of grocery shopping.
I got the idea for this drink from two different pins. The first is from My Fiance Likes It So It Must Be Good
2 parts vodka
2 parts freshly squeezed blood orange juice
1/2 part simple syrup
1/2 part triple sec
2 parts freshly squeezed blood orange juice
1/2 part simple syrup
1/2 part triple sec
The other pin is from the Hungry Mouse
2 oz. vodka
1/4 oz. triple sec
1/4 oz. simple syrup
1/4 oz. triple sec
1/4 oz. simple syrup
2 1/2 oz. blood orange juice
I couldn't find the blood oranges at the store, but I was undeterred. Since both recipes call for blood orange juice and simple syrup (which is basically sugar water) I headed over to Trader Joe's for my favorite blood orange soda which just happens to be blood orange juice and sugar water. I love blood orange soda and a bottle of this stuff rarely lasts a day at our house!
In my neighborhood, Trader Joe's is right next to the dollar store, so I even shelled out some cash for the right kind of glasses.
1/4 cup citrus vodka
1/2 cup Trader Joe's blood orange soda, chilled
I'm putting it on the yum list. Of course I liked it! Pink girly drinks seem to be my thing!

This sounds yummy! My first thought was, "Where am I going to find blood oranges," but you have a solution for that! I'll have to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteI found you on the "Grow Your Blog" party at This Gal Cooks. I love Pinterest and cocktails too, so we're two peas in a pod. I'm going to follow you on Facebook. If you'd like to see some of my cocktail (or other) recipes, you can see them here: http://wearychef.com.
Nice to "meet" you! :)
Stopped by from Harvest of Friends Blog Hop. The drink looks delicious, but I am a lightweight with alcohol.
